AltarPad

Free worship pads online

AltarPad is a free worship pad player that runs in your browser. Pick a key and it plays a warm, ambient pad that you shape with five sound layers, filters and reverb. There is nothing to download, and you don't need an account to play.

Pads that are made live, not played back

Many pad players loop recorded audio files. AltarPad has no recordings: every note is synthesized live with the Web Audio API. That is why there are no loops that repeat, no large downloads, and why the pad can move from one chord to the next with a crossfade of 0.5 to 15 seconds.

Shape the sound

  • Five layers: Lows, Harmony, Shine, Breath and Air, each with its own fader.
  • Low cut and high cut filters, and reverb.
  • Tone from soft to hard, and four steps of variation: flat, gentle, alive and colorful.
  • Master volume and the crossfade time between chords.

All 12 keys, three chord types

Tap any of the 12 keys and choose major, minor or neutral. A neutral pad has no third, so it sits under major and minor songs alike. The octave buttons move the pad up or down.

Rhythm and chord progressions when you need them

Switch on the rhythm section for tempo-synced stabs or arpeggios, or build a looping progression with the chord sequencer. If you own a controller, you can play and mix the pads with MIDI on a computer.

Made for the service

Open the page on a laptop, tablet or phone and play through your DI box or mixer. AltarPad asks your browser to keep the screen on while a pad plays. On a computer, Stage Mode enlarges the keys and hides the rest of the page. Save your sounds as presets in a free account, or send a link that loads exactly the sound you made.

Questions

Is AltarPad free?

Yes. Every key, all layers, the sequencer, the rhythm section and MIDI mapping are free to use, without ads or a paywall.

Do I need an account?

No. You can play, shape the sound and share a link without signing in. An account is only needed to save presets and to keep your MIDI mapping across devices.

What is a neutral chord pad?

A neutral pad has no third. It plays the root and the fifth, stacked over several octaves with a ninth on top, so it is neither major nor minor and fits under songs in both.
