AltarPad

Questions and answers

AltarPad is a free pad player for worship leaders, solo musicians and church teams, played live in your browser.

Is AltarPad free?

Yes. Every key, all layers, the sequencer, the rhythm section and MIDI mapping are free to use, without ads or a paywall.

Do I need an account?

No. You can play, shape the sound and share a link without signing in. An account is only needed to save presets and to keep your MIDI mapping across devices.

What is a neutral chord pad?

A neutral pad has no third. It plays the root and the fifth, stacked over several octaves with a ninth on top, so it is neither major nor minor and fits under songs in both.

Does MIDI work on iPad, iPhone or Safari?

No. Safari and every iPhone and iPad browser lack Web MIDI, because Apple doesn't offer it to web pages. MIDI mapping works on a computer in Chrome, Edge or Firefox. Everything else in AltarPad works in Safari and on iPad.

Will my screen go to sleep while I play?

AltarPad asks your browser to keep the screen on while a pad is playing. This works in browsers that support the Screen Wake Lock API. If yours doesn't, set the auto-lock of your device to a longer time.

How do I share my sound?

Tap the share icon in the preset bar. AltarPad copies a link, or opens your phone's share menu. Whoever opens it hears the same layers, filters, rhythm and chord sequence once they press a key. The link carries the settings itself, so nothing is stored on a server.
